URANUS IN ARIES—WELCOME TO THE NEW DECADE!

My primary purpose as an astrologer is to bring the Laws of the Universe down to Earth so that they may be put to practical use by each individual.  In a natal horoscope we show all the planets as revolving around the Earth as it is their influence upon us and not upon the Sun that is of major concern to both astrologers and clients alike.  Astrology is a metaphysical science, not a natural or physical one.  We are not here to challenge the laws of physics proposed by the astronomer.  Indeed, astrology is to astronomy what psychology is to physiognomy.                                                            –A.O.

Uranus is not always your friendliest celestial companion even though he is the ruler of Aquarius, the sign of friendships.  He is detached, independent, willful, unpredictable (and likes being so!), as well as amazingly powerful in his ability to bring forth the new and original while throwing in “just a tad” of destructive force just to make sure that he is fathering his own seeds.  And by the way, from the esoteric perspective, Uranus also rules sex!  (He is after all, exalted in the sign of Scorpio.)  He is so much his own “person,” that he is the only planet in the solar system that revolves at a tilt of some 98º to the plane of its orbit, so that his north pole sometimes faces the Sun.  Yet he benefits us by making sure that we are true to our own nature and that we are always capable of being innovative in our forms of self-expression.  When viewed from an evolutionary standpoint, Uranus is the intense urge to individuate, which in essence means to become a Self.

I offer the reader a tale out of Greek mythology to substantiate the incredible regenerative potency of this far-away orb, located some 1.7 billion miles from Earth, and so huge that its mass is 50 times that of our own planet.  Uranus had a son Chronos (Saturn) who wanted to overthrow him and take his place as Lord of Olympus.  He did this by castrating him and tossing the severed organs into Poseidon’s (Neptune’s) ocean.  But the sexual/regenerative power of Uranus was so strong that Aphrodite (Venus) and other gods were born out of this divine mix.  Eventually Uranus’ offspring overthrew Chronos (the name means “time”) defeating him.  We thus have in this story the understand that time is transcended by the energies of Uranus—intuition, and the inherent urge To Be.

Uranus entered Aries for the first time in 84 years on May 28th of this year for a short stay and leaves the Ram, reentering Pisces on August 14th.  He begins a visit of some 7 year in that sign on March 12, 2011, a visit that will affect all of our lives.  It is interesting to note that Jupiter also reenters Aries in 2011 (on January 22) but for a far briefer sojourn of only 5 months, having already entered this sign in early June of this year.  Jupiter remains in the Ram until early September, only covering the first 3º of this sign.  The meaning for us of this transit of Jupiter and his association with Uranus I will cover more fully in my next article in Dell Horoscope Magazine.

Uranus in Aries is a very powerful planet/sign combination.  Uranus likes the Ram, he appreciates his urge to initiate and move forward.  He likes the Ram’s courage and his never-ceasing fiery creative spirit.  In addition, Aries is ruled by Mars, the co-ruler of Scorpio, the sign in which Uranus is exalted.  There is another reason why this interchange is so powerful, something that is told to us in the Ancient Wisdom Teachings.  It is there said that Uranus rules Aries on a level of creative expression known as “hierarchical.” In this explanation I must be brief for this is an article and not a book. But should the reader wish further information about this fascinating facet of our ancient science, please note the references given in the footnote.[1]

Basically all the planets express themselves on three primary levels:

a.     The level of the personality—these are the “traditional rulerships” and function physically, emotionally, mentally in our daily lives and ordinary activities.

b.    The level of the soul—these are the “esoteric rulerships” and function in the lives of people who are awakened to the reality of the spiritual Path of service, love, wisdom, and consciousness.

c.     The level of the monad—these are the “hierarchical rulerships” and function at a level far beyond the perception of either the ordinary or spiritually aware human being.  These are planetary expressions that effect the entire human collective as One Organism and they are intimately involved with the evolution of that Organism as a Whole.  More than this about this level of expression I cannot say at this time.

Shortly, I will be giving out some information about the transits of Uranus and how they will affect our natal horoscopes on the personality level.  As I said at the outset of this article:  “My primary purpose as an astrologer is to bring the Laws of the Universe down to Earth so that they may be put to practical use by each individual.”  So this is what we shall be doing when we examine the effects of transiting Uranus in Aries as he connects with your natal planets.  But it should be noted that on the Hierarchical Level and in terms of its effects on humanity in general, the transit of Uranus in Aries will stimulate the following from 2011-2018 (and briefly in the middle of 2010):

1.      An increase in civil upheaval in order to replace existing social systems with new ones.  These new structures will be revealed to people of the highest consciousness during these years but will not be implemented during this time.

2.     The period when Uranus and Jupiter are conjoined in the middle of 2010 will most likely see an increase in earthquakes and other climatic conditions that affect the global community.  This will reinforce the spirit of Goodwill among Men as international aid groups will come together to be of service and all of humanity will continue to realize the unity of our planetary life.

3.     The period in which Uranus in Aries is square to Pluto in Capricorn (approx. June 2011-September 2011; May 2012-October 2012;April 2013-April 2015) will see a time when people will seek the destruction or at the very least the restructuring of oppressive corporate and governmental systems.  There will be strong power struggles between forces for democratic freedom of expression and repressive governmental and economic systems.

No matter its level of expression, Uranus in Aries has a primary function and this is to introduce new modes of expression.  When in the Celestial Ram, Uranus functions to individuate any planet that it touches.  What this means to you and me is that we will be asked to be more authentically ourselves and if we do not know what that self is as yet, Uranus will certainly help us to definite it.  Naturally, no planet touches the entire horoscope with the same emphasis, so this individuating urge will be focused in your life relative to where Uranus “lands” and which planets in turn, receive his special and unique Light.  What follows is only a brief analysis of the planetary principles involved.  Everything as we already know is modified by aspect, so that when Uranus is trine or sextile a planet his forceful regenerative and individualizing effects will be far easier to handle than if he connects by square, opposition, or conjunction.  U
